When illnesses and injuries occur, the healing process becomes essential. There are certain things that you can do in order to benefit the healing process, and this is going to lead to healing more quickly and more effectively as a result. For example, positive thinking can actually have a profoundly positive effect on your ability to overcome an injury or an illness.

The Power of Positive Thinking for Recovery

Positive thinking is powerful in all aspects of our lives, and this includes the healing process when you are sick or injured. If you keep a good attitude despite adversity during the healing process, then you can move the healing process along in the right direction. There are a lot of ways that you can improve your attitude about the healing process. Some people, for example, have had great luck using therapy animals such as dogs and cats to improve their outlook, which in turn has aided significantly in their rehabilitation. Other people have surrounded themselves with their favorite things or continued to engage in a favorite hobby in order to keep spirits up. It really does not take much to change your outlook and start thinking positively, but simply steps can really have a profound impact on your ability to overcome the illness or injury so that you can move on with your life.

Thinking positively, coupled with the right medicine or treatment, can help you to recover more quickly and more easily than if you were simply using medical treatments alone.

Senior/Elder Care and You

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

Watching a parent age poorly is one of the toughest things you could ever go through. The impulse to try and care for them, as much as they cared for you when you were a child, is strong. But those who require professional care need, nay deserve, more than you are simply capable of providing for them. It is difficult to look past the love and concern you have for your parent and objectively recognize that it is time to bring in someone trained to do this properly.

The topic of senior/elder care is difficult to navigate for those with little to no medical training. It becomes particularly complicated when the emotional pull of an aging family member gets in the way. There are a few clear cut signs that should indicate it is time to bring in a professional, even if it is on a part-time basis. The first is a complicated medical regimen. The more pills needed, the more likely it is for mistakes to occur. When injections are added to the mix, it can oftentimes be easier and safer to have a trained professional guarantee that mistakes don’t happen. Another sign is when physical therapy is a requirement. A trained therapist will not only ensure that the regimen is followed properly, they can also make the appropriate adjustments as the patient progresses or falls behind. The signs do not always come from the parent though.

One should be on the lookout for the ways senior/elder care affects him or her. People should be willing to hire help when their schedules make it more difficult to care for their aging parent. When simply finding time to stop by to make sure everything is going well is too much, the piece of mind that comes with paying someone to oversee the day to day life of their aging family member is always worth the expense.

Teens and Fibromyalgia

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that causes pain and stiffness throughout the tissues that support and move the bones and joints. Pain and tender points occur in the muscles especially those that support the neck, spine, shoulders and hips.
Usually when one hears about fibromyalgia we think of older ladies struggling with this disease but many teenagers and men are also affected. 3 to 6 million Americans have been diagnosed with the disease. Symptoms of Fibromyalgia include headaches, trouble sleeping, restless leg syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome and others.

Fibromyalgia in teens can be difficult to diagnose primarily because symptoms may appear to be pointing to other causes. Doctors often try to rule out other diseases before giving a conclusive diagnoses of Fibromyalgia, so it may take years of trial and error before the word is mentioned. Teens experience what are sometimes called invisible symptoms. Stomach, joint, foot pain with no clear reason as to why the pain is occurring. When doctors lack answers parents may begin to feel that their child is inventing the pain for attention. This compounds the problem with teens feeling bad physically and now having a cause for depression.

Right now it seems Doctors have more questions than answers regarding this disease. for some it appears without any warning and seemingly without cause. While in a separate group of patients Fibromyalgia seems to have been brought on by stress, trauma to the head or neck, or even endometriosis. Doctors are currently treating Fibromyalgia with a combination of medicine, relaxation, physical therapy and exercise. If your teenager exhibits signs of Fibromyalgia do continue to be supportive and encouraging. It can be draining emotionally to listen to constant complaints but your love and understanding can go a long way in causing a teen to feel better at least emotionally if not physically.

If you are married and wondering why people have children, then you are not alone. There are a lot of many others who feel this way. As you progress into your life as well as your married life, things will become more apparent. You might wonder, what is all this parenting advice on issues related to teen and child health on the Internet. You might wonder what it feels like to be a father or mother. You might wonder what is the background of these phrases – proud father, happy mother.

Certain people come to counselors seeking parenting advice on why they are not able to decide on having a baby or not. These people might feel that making babies will seem good for the time the kid is young and cute. After sometime they feel it is an expensive proposition to have a child and provide the child the best of education and life.

People have kids for various reasons. Some of them are explicable, some of them aren’t. Some parents like the idea of having babies. Babies are bundles of joy that can enliven an otherwise adult household. A house with small children is so much fun to live in. All the angst, fears, and worries of adulthood are forgotten in moments of mirthful madness spent with little children.

Another reason would be to vent the love into another outlet. In a successful marriage, the parents might feel that their bond will increase with another person getting added into the family. Having a baby will allow these people to vent their latent reservoirs of love towards their children. Apart from experiencing romantic love, which they did and will keep doing, they might feel the urge to feel to love like parents.

Some people have children, thinking that when they become old, their children will look after them. This thought is predominant in countries like India that encourage child-bearing for this if not for others.

Finding sale prices on high fashion has never been so easy. The Internet gives everyone the opportunity to browse gifts for the holiday that won’t cost you a lot of money. Just because you are pinching your pennies, though, does not mean that you have to compromise when it comes to quality. Good value means buying high quality items at a low price.

The Internet is such a great tool for finding deals on clothes. Most clothing retailers and designers now have pages where they list their sales and clearance designs. This is a great opportunity to purchase fashionable clothing at really cheap prices. For instance, Dereon now has a sale section on its website that organizes their items by price. You can shop for products under $50, $30 or $20. That makes it easy to purchase cutting edge designs without breaking open your piggy bank.

The real advantage of using a company’s website is that you get to look at so much more than you would at the store. If you visit a Banana Republic store, then you’re not going to find a whole lot on the clearance rack. If you combine the items on clearance racks across the country, though, you suddenly have a great selection to choose from. That’s essentially what the website does. When you visit the clearance section, you get to browse clothes from hundreds of stores rather than just one.

Now that the holiday shopping season is upon us, pay close attention to your favorite websites. They often post deals that only last a short period of time. If you miss those deals, then you’re going to end up spending more money this year. Signing up for a website’s newsletter is another good way to stay in the know. Then you just have to check your email to learn about upcoming sales and clearance items.

Reconnecting with your teen

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

We live in a world filled with distractions. No one is more susceptible to this than teenagers. There is always something vying for Thieu attention. It’s easy to feel that at this stage of life teens want nothing more than to flee the prying eyes of parents. This is true to an extent but shockingly enough many teens still want deep connections to their family even while they are spreading their wings.

Parents can help those connections thrive by allowing teens the space they have earned but also refusing to withdraw from their teens totally. There are some teens that have not earned the right to unlimited privacy. Teens who are failing classes, disrespectful at home and routinely making bad choices are showing that what they need are boundaries, not freedom. Parents should feel good about allowing teens that are doing well to visit friends and have reasonable outings yet in the midst of that teens do not expect parents to be totally M.I.A. they want to know that parents are there especially when they need them. Once at teen reaches 15-16 years old many parents feel that their job is almost over and all they have to do is be on the periphery of their child’s life. This is a dangerous misconception that can cause teens to feel as though they must figure out this thing called life by themselves.

Having quiet time or not so quiet time alone with your teen can reinforce your love and acceptance of them. Teens love attention and the feeling that their parents really care about what is important to them. Whether it’s sports, music or shopping spend time alone listening to your teen and enjoying the person they are becoming. Any parent who takes time out to care for their teens as individuals are investing in a long time relationship that reaps wonderful rewards.

Is your teenager a superstar celebrity? Does he or she have thousands and thousands of fans? Is your teenager a sports star, a movie star, a rock star, or a genius? If your teenage kid might be a celebrity in any sphere, and you still want parenting advice on issues related to teen and child health, then read on.

Parenting a celebrity kid is something of a privilege. Parents will love the fact that their child is a celebrity. With money, fame, and accolades coming in, there are so many good things happening everywhere. Your child might be used to it, or might not be. You might be used to it or still getting used to it. Whatever be the case, being the parent of a celebrity kid is really great.

If you want parenting advice on how to get your child to deal with fame, then you should set an example yourself. Children look up to their parents to understand definitions of fame. Parents should lead by example and set principles and values. This includes defining things like fame, and how it matters in the larger scheme of things. If you as a parent feel that fame should be got by any means, then your child will build up on the fame, with more unscrupulous strategies. Here the situation might end up from fame being a matter of shame.

As a parent you should mould your kids to look at money as a means to an end. This is the best parenting advice for parents who are having celebrity children. Celebrity children will invariably make more money. But more money should not make a mockery of a child, as he or she grows up into an adult, and gets flogged by the money monster. In other words, money should not imbalance your child’s values systems. Getting dominated by money will destroy teen and child health, in that it might turn a celebrity teenager into friendless fraudster.

Why Switching to Smokeless Cigarettes is Worth Considering

The latest rage among smokers is smokeless cigarettes. The term refers to electronic cigarettes, also called personal vaporizers or e-cigarettes. Smokeless cigarettes are battery operated and come as either disposables or reusables. The reusable ones have cartridges that can be refilled if needed.

Why Use Electronic Cigarettes

There are a number of reasons why using smokeless cigarettes can be a good thing. Compelling reasons smokers have for switching include being able to control nicotine levels, and no risk of fire. With these cigarettes, there is no smoke so even nonsmokers will be happy knowing they won’t inhale secondhand smoke. This also makes it possible for users of smokeless cigarettes to ‘light up’ in even non-smoking areas.

Electronic cigarettes enable users to control their nicotine intake. Each cartridge used in the devices has levels of nicotine ranging from none to very high. This can be a good thing for those smokers who want to quit smoking by reducing their nicotine intake. Many believe that using another source of nicotine can reduce the dependence on cigarettes.

Smokers get most of the same physical sensations and satisfaction of real cigarettes with an electronic cigarette. They get to inhale just the same as with the real thing without many of the associated side effects. In fact, some experts believe that these smokeless cigarettes are less harmful than real cigarettes.

For those people who care about the environment, e-cigs are the way to go. The issue of having to dispose of cigarette butts and ash is avoided. There is also no odor which is a big problem for some people, especially those with allergies and respiratory illnesses such as asthma.

One added advantage of e-cigarettes that appeals to many people is the variety of flavors available. There are currently well over one hundred flavors, including caramel, strawberry and coffee.

Parenting Tips: Controlling Sibling Rivalry

Sibling rivalry can blow put of proportions when children grow up. Therefore it is important to nip the bud at the beginning itself. Sibling rivalry is nothing but a brewing discontentment amongst two children of a parent. It’s like a discord or a rivalry between a brother to a brother, a brother to a sister, or a sister to a sister.

Sibling rivalries are not a good thing in a family. It does happen during childhood, when two children might fight. But as time passes, things iron out between the two. When things don’t, then sibling rivalry can become a full blown war between two grown up adults.

To stop your children from being rivals with each other, your need to certain things that will make them feel like equals. You need to love them equally. Punish them equally. Care for them equally. Never make the mistake of having a soft corner for a younger child over an older child. This will make the older child loathe even the presence of the younger child.

These childhood angers will also carry on to adulthood. In adulthood it will become more than a small problem. During this time, parents will not have a control over their children. So it is better to deal with it right now itself.

Teen and child health experts feel that the best way to deal with sibling rivalry is to create a partnership between children. When children are asked to be partners to do something, then they will feel more like a team.

You can start off with making some small games in your home, where you and your spouse will be one team, while the other team is your children. So your children will feel one and together. If you encourage such activities, the children will stop being rivals, and start working for each other.

Therefore the best parenting advice for dealing with sibling rivalry is to make your children become activity partners.

Is your teenager shy?

Shy teenagers will find it difficult to mingle with other people. They can get sad and depressed due to this problem. This can even lead them to take drastic steps to avoid people. As a parent you need to understand what makes your child shy. Is it because of a lack of something that you wouldn’t know? Or is it because your child chose this path on his or her own?

Whatever be the case, shy teenagers need a lot of egging to get to mingle and socialize. Teen and child health experts feel that shyness in teenagers is because of a mix of internal as well as external agents. Internal agents would be the child’s psychological orientations and so on. The external agents would be how the child’s friends and family behave toward the child.

Parents have sought parenting advice on how to deal with the issue of parenting a shy teenager. The best way to kill a teenager’s shyness is to bring a lot of social activity into your home itself. Keep inviting people to your home.

Invest in this process for some time. You will see that your teenage child will come out of the open and start talking to people. Having no other option and no other escape route, a teenage child will come out and speak to people. Although it will not happen immediately, it will happen gradually. And before you know it your teenage child’s shyness would have gone down the drain.

Research has shown that teenagers who were shy will not become so when they grow up, provided parents showed a lot of interest in changing their children’s attitudes. When a teenager’s shyness problems are left unattended then it carry over to adulthood and the situation might become even tougher to come to terms with for the teenager. In the sphere of teen and child health, shyness can also be classified as a problem that never remains a problem.
